05.09.26 – MILKWEED POPULAIRE

Join us at 10am on May 9th at Indian Fort Nature Preserve for the first ride of the 2026 touring season!

Route: *link to route here*
Length: 40 miles
Height: 2570 feet

After last year’s successful Oil Springs Randonee, we are back and bringing two more brevet-card style scavenger hunts to you.

The rules:
At the grand depart, each rider will be given a randomized brevet-card which will have a list of questions that will pertain to a specific part of the route, along with which mile to find it. A good example would be something like, “Mile 23: What is the name on the second tombstone to the left?” Upon completion of the ride, you’ll snap us a quick photo of your card with all the answers on it and we’ll score them from there.

Each rider will begin with a pathfinder (brevet) card at the grand depart, where people will be asked to stop at random locations throughout the ride to gather information, answer questions, and leave some trace. Expect to do a little lolly-gagging and to bring a pencil or pen! Participants brevet cards will be collected at the end of the ride either in person or digitally using the honor system.

Scoring will be as such:
+3 points for each correctly answered mile question
+1 point for a decent attempt at a mile question
+3 points for the fastest rider time
+1 point for second fastest rider time

The route:
Upon departing the parking lot of Indian Fort Nature Preserve, begin climbing up Mill Gully road and up to the 1000′ ridgeline between the Genesee Valley and Conesus Lake at Groveland Corners. From there, you’ll bomb Latimer Road down to the Canaseraga Creek, taking Pioneer Road into Sonyea for some dirt road ramblings. After reaching Union Corners, you’ll begin northeasterly towards the Genesee valley once more to Groveland Station. Moving along the swampy inlet at the south of Conesus Lake, you’ll continue north until a challenging climb/hike-a-bike back up to the top of Groveland Hill. You’ll then take East Groveland Road back down.

Q: What bike should I bring?
A major portion of the ride is on rough country roads, with several gravel and dirt sections that are quite loose and scrappy. A touring or gravel bike with between 38-55mm tires would be best suited for the route.

Q: What gear should I bring?
The route, as you will be riding at your own pace gathering answers
Two water bottles
Snacks for the ride
Inner tubes, pump, and repair kit
A rain jacket

Q: What sort of riding should I expect?
Expect to bike at whatever pace you prefer. This is a brevet-card scavenger hunt with additional points for fastest and second-fastest times, meaning there may be some riders who would like to break off and go for that. For that reason – expect to bring the route either via GPS, phone, or printed map. We will provide a link to the route and the scavenger hunt card, but having the route is on you.
